He made everyone Ridiculously Jealous!

When most people imagine their dream home, they probably think of a large, sprawling vacation house that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. When Steve Areen thought about building hisdream home, all he had to do was find $9,000 and a place to build. He did just that and, in a few weeks, he had a vacation home in the middle of Thailand that could make anyone drool.

In just 6 weeks, Steve was able to create the home of his dreams.

With a Thai friend’s guidance, his son-in-law’s masonry skills and a lot of work, the team made progress quickly.

Steve was given a place on his friend Hajjar Gibran’s mango grove to build his home.

Amazing Eyecatching Falling Water

Fallingwater suggests the name of a very special kind of house that is entirely built above a waterfall.Frank Lloyd Wright, the architect who designed Fallingwater, was a master at manipulating how his clients would move about his houses, and in this one that is nestled in the Pennsylvania countryside about 60 miles west of Pittsburgh, he put nature front stage center, a focus that is not well known beyond Wright scholars.

The house is wondrous, to be sure. The dramatic cantilevered terraces over the waterfall, the look of the rooms, the feel of the spaces, the simplicity of the palette, the limited number of materials, and the disciplined spareness of the detailing are captivating. But a visitor who’s allowed to linger and enjoy a quiet afternoon in Fallingwater, as I did when I participated in Fallingwater’s Insight/Onsite program, begins to understand that for Wright the house was also a lens through which the sights and sounds of nature could be viewed, heard and experienced.

Device That Harvests Free Electricity

Yes! You read that right …. this is a device that harvests free electricity by soaking up radiation. It was invented by a German student and it is capable of recharging a AA battery by gathering nearby energy. It can harvest ambient, environmental energy from almost any source including power lines and household electrical appliances.

Essentially, this is wireless power transfer. This invention was announced early in 2013 and the possible uses for this technology are vast indeed! It has been suggested that it could be used in the development of smartphones, making it possible to tap into surrounding environmental energy and charge your phone at any time.

This is a very intersting and exciting concept that is still being developed further. There is great potential here but there are still many questions to answer. How much ambient energy is actually available? Can this harvester be designed so that it can harvest more energy? Currently it is capable of harvesting enough power to charge one AA battery per day. Can several of them be used in conjunction to harvest more power?

Hopefully we will find out the answers to these questions in the near future, this is definitely a concept that is worth watching!
